The Brief

The gardens at the side and rear of the house had previously been designed in the early 2000's. The gardens are now established and are looking great, however the large expanse of lawn at the front of the property was looking bare in comparison. Our client decided to re design this in keeping with the current gardens.

Solution & Approach

  • The client and Helen Young, our design contractor at Central Oak, sat down together and came up with a mud map plan to design the front garden.

  • Using plants such as lemon scented myrtle, buxus japonica, azaleas, salvias and camellias, they created a design for the future. Plants were carefully selected looking at habitat, aspect, growth rate and form.

  • The design was complimented by installing a beautiful garden edge using the original house bricks. The curves of the edge flowed throughout the old lawn area.

  • The irrigation system was recalibrated to include the new plants and lawn area. This involved planning and mathematical solutions to allow enough pressure for each zone to function so that there was adequate coverage for the plants and the lawn areas.

  • New Sir Grange lawn was professionally laid and rolled for a carpet like finish.

  • The garden bed was planted out and mulched.

  • The job was most enjoyable for the team. Working with the client was great as she was so excited and invested in the project, not to mention the extra help we got from Joey 🐕.
