The Client

  • Moorefield Girls High School

  • Principal: Natalie & Job Coordinator: Kathy 

  • The recipients: girls from year 7 to 12 

  • The area to be re-designed was a bare section of grass land between the girls and boys high school approximately 200m2

The Brief

  • Landscape an interactive garden to include functionality, i.e. a space for recess and lunch. To allow for education and outdoor classes and to be an interactive garden where the students can learn the skill of growing their very own herbs, vegetables and fruits. 

  • The area was funded by a State government grant awarded to public high schools in Sydney. 

  • The use of prefabricated vegetable beds x 4 along with aluminium seating x 2.

Solution & Approach

  • Tired old couch grass was replaced with Sir Walter Buffalo grass.

  • New vegetable beds were irrigated from the on-site water tanks, the irrigation was hidden internally inside the vegetable beds, creating a smart internal.

  • On site recycled bush mulch was spread out to define the new garden beds and areas.

  • The layout was designed as an amphitheater where the students could be taught as well as having shaded areas from the sun.
